TRAVEL AND DESIGN

Oregon Coast.

Last Memorial Day weekend, Zach and I took our very first road trip together. We planned our trip pretty last minute, but lucky for us, there were still a few camp sites available. We decided on a site located just outside of Tillamook, Oregon at the Barview Jetty. It was honestly one of the prettiest places ever and I still can't believe there were spaces available! We totally lucked out! The campsite was clean, had showers and clean bathrooms, it was right on the beach and pretty centrally located on the coast.

We left Edmonds early on Friday morning and headed to Portland for breakfast. We stopped at The Screen Door, where we had the most delicious chicken and waffles I've ever had. The plates were HUGE and we easily could have split one. If you ever stop here for breakfast, expect to wait at least an hour. Even on a Friday morning, we waited for just about an hour. It's SO worth it!

After breakfast we headed over to the campsite and spent the first day setting up, hanging out on the beach and relaxing. We figured out we had forgot a few things, but luckily enough, there was a Fred Meyer in Tillamook. We made at least four stops there over the course of the trip. We were such noobs! We now have a list of the things we forgot for future reference.

The next day, we headed south down the coast. We made various stops and took our time seeing the sights until we arrived at our final destination of the day. Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area was my favorite stop we made that day. This site is an educational center, a historic lighthouse and home to tons of wildlife. We spent about an hour walking around and enjoying the sites of the cobble stone beach.
Once we arrived in Newport, we headed straight for some fish n chips at Mo's. I hadn't had Mo's since I was little, and it was just as good as I remembered. From there, we looked around the shops, drank some beer at Rogue Brewing and laughed ourselves silly watching the seals. It was a long drive back to the site that night, so we stopped at a local beach in Newport and took a power nap before driving back to Barview.

The next day we drove north to Cannon Beach. Because what's a trip down the coast without hanging out at Haystack Rock? The drive wasn't as long, which meant more beach time for us. We stopped in for some Insomnia Coffee (YUM,) packed a lunch for the beach, shopped around and got our fave Tillamook icecream! It started out cloudy in the morning, but was hot by the afternoon. Literally the perfect day! We headed back for camp to make some dinner and a bon fire on the beach. I will never forget this trip with Zach! Next time you are thinking road trip, add camping into the mix and see what happens! Could end up being one of the best vacations you've ever had!
